A/C repair for Bothell drivers
Our summers are short, so a weak A/C gets ignored until the first hot week. Then it’s an afternoon crawl on I-405 with the sun on the windshield and warm air coming out of the vents. That’s usually when we hear from Bothell drivers.
Our shop is in Woodinville, a short drive east of Bothell on Hwy 522. We’re family owned, we’ve been in Woodinville for over 15 years, and we work on A/C systems in all makes and models, from compact cars to pickups and diesel trucks.
What your symptoms usually mean
- Warm air from the start: often low refrigerant from a leak, a compressor that isn’t engaging, or an electrical fault such as a fuse or relay.
- Cold on the highway, warm at a stoplight: the condenser fan may not be running, or the system is slightly low.
- Cold on one side only: a blend door or its actuator may be stuck.
- A grinding or squeal when the A/C kicks on: the compressor or its clutch is wearing out.
- A musty or sour smell: moisture and buildup on the evaporator, or a clogged cabin air filter.
- Water on the passenger floor: a plugged evaporator drain.
How we diagnose it
An A/C system is sealed. If it’s low on refrigerant, it leaked somewhere, and topping it off without finding the leak only buys a few weeks. So we start by checking system pressures and testing for leaks. We confirm the compressor is engaging, the condenser fan runs, and the controls and wiring are doing their job. Electrical faults are common in A/C systems, and our auto electrical repair for Bothell drivers covers that side of it.
Once we know the cause, we repair it, whether that’s an O-ring, a hose, a condenser, an evaporator or a compressor, then recharge the system to spec. For more on the repairs themselves, see our main car A/C repair page.

Your A/C matters in the rain, too
In many cars the A/C runs with the defroster to pull moisture out of the air. If your windshield fogs up and is slow to clear on a wet Bothell morning, a weak A/C system may be part of the reason. Running the A/C for a few minutes every week or two, even in winter, also keeps the seals lubricated and helps prevent leaks.
When it can wait and what affects the cost
A system that’s just a little weaker than last year can wait for a convenient time, ideally in spring before the summer rush. A grinding compressor shouldn’t wait, because a seized compressor can damage the drive belt that also runs other parts of the engine. A defroster that won’t clear the glass is a safety problem.
Cost depends mostly on where the leak is. A hose or seal under the hood is a smaller job than an evaporator behind the dashboard. Compressor replacement, and the type of refrigerant your car uses, also make a difference. We’ll work with your timeline and budget.
